As the National Road No. 5 and No. 6 from Battambang to Siem Reap is paved completely and easy to travel, overland travel by bus is one of the most popular transport options for this route. The trip takes between 2.5-3 hours. Private bus companies offer in general two or three regular scheduled daily departures in air-conditioned buses. Tickets can be arranged in travel agencies, guesthouses, hotels or directly at the bus company.

Price: US$ 5-7 shared taxi, US$ 40 private taxi
Hiring a private taxi is a convenient and independent way of travelling. A taxi can be either arranged through your hotel, a travel agency or directly with the taxi company or the driver. The rate is negotiable. Shared taxis are a cheaper option but also less convenient. It is normal that 4 people share the back seats and 2 people the seat next to the driver. In case you would like to have the front seat for yourself be prepared that you have to pay for two. The Taxi stand is located in the west of Battambang, at the National Road No 5 about 1 km west of Sangker River.

Traveling from Battambang to Siem Reap with the river ferry
Duration: 6-8 hours
Price: 20-25 USD
There is one daily local ferry departing at 07:00 from Battambang ferry pier to Siem Reap which takes between 6-8 hours depending on the water level. The best time for a transfer by ferry is during the wet season from July until November when the water level on Tonle Sap Lake and the Sangker River is high. It is a very interesting and scenic way of travelling passing floating houses and houses on steels. Please keep in mind that the local ferries do not meet international safety standards.
