How to get from Bangkok to Koh Phangan

You can travel from Bangkok to Koh Phangan by Bus or train and then take a ferry. Koh Phangan has no airport, but you can fly to Koh Samui or Surat Thani and take a ferry from there.

 

Traveling from Bangkok to Koh Phangan by Bus and Ferry

 

Duration: approximately 13 hours

Price: 1350 baht

Departure times: 06:00 and 21:00

 

The Lompraya Highspeed Ferry Company offers combined tickets first you take the bus to Chumpon and then you continue to Koh Tao and Koh Phangan by ferry.

A one way ticket will cost 1350 baht (May 2013) and the trip will take about 13 hours. The ferry will make a stop at Koh Tao Island and then heads on to the Thong Sala Pier on Koh Phangan.

 

Traveling from Bangkok to Koh Phangan by Plane

 

Koh Phangan has no airport, but you can fly to Koh Samui which is not far from Koh Phangan. You can fly from Suvernabumi airport in Bangkok straight to Koh Samui airport with Bangkok air.

 

There is also another option. You can fly from Bangkok to Surat Thani airport and from there take bus ferry connection to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Nok Air offers combination packages where you have a combined plane and ferry ticket. 

 

If you book in advance Air Asia sometimes has very interesting offers. At Surat Thani airport it is very easy to arrange transport to Koh Phangan. There is a ticket office where you can buy two types of tickets. With the Lompraya high speed Catamaran for 700 baht or with the slow boat for 450 baht. This includes transfer to the pier and the ferry crossing.

 

Traveling from Bangkok to Koh Phangan by Train and Ferry

 

If you want to travel to Koh Phangan by train you will first have to go to Surat Thani, from there to the ferry pier from where the night ferry leaves for Koh Phangan. The total trip can take up to 18 hours if you get the right connections.

 

Train from Bangkok to Surat Thani

 

Duration: to Surat Thani 8,5-11 hours

Price: 297-1379

 

To travel to Koh Phangan by train you should first take the train to Surat Thani. There are daily trains leaving from Hua Lampong station in Bangkok. A third class ticket is around 297 baht and a first class ticket 1379 baht. A taxi to the Ferry Pier at Surat Thani where you can take the night ferry will cost you about 180 baht and it will take you about 30 minutes.

Duration: 6-8 hours

Price: 400 baht

 

The Night Ferry to Koh Phangan will cost 400 baht. It leaves at 23:00 and it takes between 6 and 8 hours depending how rough the sea is. You get a bed asigned on the boat, but you are sleeping next to many other people.
