Pattaya is one of the most popular beach resorts in Thailand. Mainly because it is only 145 kilometers South East of Bangkok. Bangkok residents and tourists tent to go to Pattaya mainly for its bars and nightlife. Only 50 years ago Pattaya was a small fishing village, the town has come a long way since then.

Pattaya with the 4 kilometers long Pattaya Beach can be divided in several parts. South Pattaya is the busiest area in the city where you find Walking street and it’s nightlife. If you move North from that area you will find the shops, department stores and more mid range hotels. The bus from Bangkok arrives at the Bus Terminal in North Pattaya.

About 2 kilometers South of Pattaya lies Jomtien Beach. Jomtien and its beach are less busy then Pattaya, but is getting more and more popular as it offers great water sports and the water is cleaner than its Northern neighbor.
Naklua is immediately North of Pattaya. It is much quieter then Pattaya and still has a fishing harbor. It does not have as much restaurants and hotels as its neighbor to the South so it is more intesting for people who value a m ore quiet stay around Pattaya.
Koh Larn also known as Corral Island is a small island just off the coast. It is easy reachable from Pattaya beach. Most people go there on day trips, but if you stay there the night you will basically have the whole island for yourself after sunset when the day trippers head back to Pattaya.
Koh Phai is an island 40 kilometers past Koh Larn. Visitors are not allowed to stay overnight on this island. Koh Phai has some nice white sandy beaches that are open during the day. It is not very busy, not even during high season.
