Bangkok Koh Kret

In the Northern part of Bangkok, about 20 kilometers from the centre you will find the island of Koh Kret. About. 300 years ago a canal was dug to shortcut a bend in the Chao Praya river, creating the little island in the river.

There is a little boat that connects Koh Kret with the mainland. It just crosses the river the whole day and stops service at 21:00. When you arrive on the island you have to pay 2 baht for the crossing and you pay another 2 baht to get back.

Koh Kret is famous for its pottery. There are many shops on the island where you can buy pottery and also look how it is made. You can walk through the village, but the best way to see the island is by bicycle. At the ferry pier you can rent a bike for the whole day for 40 baht.

There is a 6 kilometers long path around the island. If you just follow the path it will bring you outside the village and give you a nice view of ordinary live on Koh Kret. There are a few temples on the island, which are interesting to visit. At the far end of the island there is a little restaurant where you can have a stop for a drink and eat great fish. If you decide to walk around the island it will probably take you between one and a half and two hours.

There are minivans going from Victory monument to Pak Kret, which is across the river from Koh Kret. You can also take a taxi to Koh Kret. Tell the driver to go to Pak Kret and Koh Kret and he will now.

Tip : for foreigners who live in Bangkok and have to report to the immigration office every 90 days. Koh Kret is at the end of Chaeng Wattana road, so very easy to combine with a trip to immigration.
