Bangkok Old City
The Old City is the historical heart of Bangkok where the King of Siam moved his court to in 1782. The area is filled with temples and national landmarks. On the Southern part of the district you will find the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.

In front of the Grand Palace you’ll find the field of kings. Along this big field that is often used for kite flying you will find the National Museum. Across the river you will find Wat Arun.

In the Northern part of the Old City you will find a big Backpacker enclave at Khao San Road. The area around Kao San road is packed with budget hotels and restaurants. Trips to other cities and regions in Thailand can be arranged at one of the many travel agencies in Kao San road.

On the north-eastern part of the Old City you will find the Golden Mount, Fort Mahakan and the Giant Swing. The Golden Mount is a giant golden Chedi on top of an artificial mountain. You have a great view over Bangkok from the Golden Mount.
The Giant Swing can be found in front of Wat Suthat. It was used for ceremonies, but after a series of fatal accidents the swing was taken out of use in 1935. At Wat Suthat you’ll find an 8 meter (26ft) bronze Buddha from the Sukhothai era.
