Bangkok Khao San Road
Khao San Road also known as backpacker alley is an area in Bangkok where many budget travelers stay. It lies just North of and just outside of the limits of the old city. It is within a few minutes’ walk of many of the interesting sights, such as the Grand Palace and the reclining Buddha.

At Khao San road one can find cheap to medium priced accommodation of all types and qualities. It is a gathering place for travelers that start their South East Asia trip or finish it. In Khao San road it is easy to get into contact with other travelers at one of the many bars or restaurants. Other travelers are a great resource and it’s always good to listen to their experiences.
The area is much bigger than just the Khao san road street. Just walk around a bit and you will find some surprisingly interesting side streets. Because Khao San road is packed with tourists it is also the place where people try to trick you. For example a lot of Taxi drivers try to negotiate a price with you, which is always negative for you as traveler. Just insist on putting on the meter. With Tuk Tuks you have no choice but to negotiate, that’s why they are standard more expensive. But you have to try it at least once just for the experience.
There are many travel agencies in the Khao San area from where you can book tickets to other parts of Thailand and neighboring countries such as Laos and Cambodia. There are many stories about trickery on trips that start from Khao San road. Most important is to just be a bit street smart and you will be alright. If you are traveling for example always make sure you have your passport and valuables on you and not in your backpack that goes under in the bus.
