Summary of the most important areas in Bangkok in Thailand
Bang Na
Covering a large space in south Bangkok, Bang Na is an area that became easily accessible after the BTS extension in 2011. This area is way off the tourist trail. Check out the Rama IX park and the Erawan museum or go shopping at the many shopping malls and markets.
Chatuchak
Chatuchack is an area in the northern part of the center of Bangkok. Here you can find the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market and also the Mo Chit Bus Terminal.

China Town
China Town is an old neighborhood in Bangkok, good for shopping for local and Chinese products. If you are in Bangkok during Chinese New Year, Chinatown should not be missed.
Ekkamai
Ekkamai is a side street of Sukhumvit street. In this area you will find the Ekkamai Bus Terminal from where you can travel to Pattaya and Koh Samet.

Khao San Road
Khao San road is an area just North of the Old City. It is a very popular place for backpackers as lodging and food is cheap in Khao San.
Old City
The Old city is where you find most temples and museums in Bangkok. If you visit Bangkok you need to spent at least one day in the Old city to visit the Grand Palace and Wat Pho (reclining buddha)

Ratchaprasong District
The Ratchaprasong District is a high class shopping, hotel and restaurant area in Bangkok. Here you can also find the Erawan Shrine.
Riverside
Many luxury hotels are situated on the banks of the Chao Praya River in the Riverside Area in Bangkok. From the Sirocco Bar you have one of the best views of the city.
Siam Square
The area around Siam square is Bangkok’s shopping district. There are plenty of big shopping malls to be found here such as Siam Paragon and MBK. Siam Ocean World inside the Paragon shopping mall is the biggest aquarium in South East Asia. Near the Siam square area you can also find the Jim Thompson house.

Si Lom Road
The area around Si Lom is the main business district in Bangkok. There are plenty of nice restaurants to be found here. At the beginning of Si Lom road near Sala Daeng BTS station you will find the Patpong entertainment streets. At Si Lom road you will also find the Lumphini Park.
Sukhumvit Road
The area around Sukhumvit road is the entertainment heart of Bangkok, with plenty of bars, restaurants and hotels. On Soi 11 you will find some of the best clubs Bangkok has to offer.
