The city of Ayutthaya is located about 80 km North of Bangkok, along the banks of the Chao Phraya River and along the northern rail line. Ayutthaya can be reached via car, bus, boat, or train.

 

By Train

 

Trains to Ayutthaya leave Bangkok's Hua Lumphong Station approximately every hour between 16.20 and 22.00 every day.

 

In the Eastern part of Ayutthaya you can find the train station from where you have connections with Chiang Mai in the North and Bangkok in the South. From the train station you can get a Tuk Tuk or songtaew to your destination in town.

 

By Bus

 

The bus station can be found on the Eastern part of Ayutthaya.

Ordinary busses depart from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2) for Ayutthaya's main terminal on Naresuan Road every 20 minutes 17.00 and 19.00 The trip takes around 2 hours.

 

Air-conditioned busses operate the same route every 20 minutes from 17.40 to 19.20 (departing every 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.) The trip takes 1.5 /2 hrs depending on the traffic.

 

By Minibus

 

Druing the whole day there are minibuses leaving almost every 15 minutes from Victory monument in Bangkok to Ayutthaya. The minibus is the fastest way to travel from Bangkok to Ayutthaya and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

By Boat

 

Traveling by boat to Ayutthaya is popular among foreigners since it both reveals the lifestyle of the people living along the Chao Phraya River and reflects the life in history at the time of Ayutthaya Kingdom when the Chao Phraya River served as the primary means for trading with foreign countries.

 

There are no boat service from Bangkok to Ayutthaya only luxury cruises that cost around 1,500 baht/person to 1,800 baht depending on the type of the cruise.
