Colombo is the commercial and financial capital of Sri Lanka after the administrative capital was moved to Sri Jayewardenepura-Kotte, a suburb east of the city. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins.

South Sri Lanka

Most sights in Sri Lanka are scattered around the South Coast between Bentota in the West and Arugam Bay in the east. Here you can emerge yourself in the historical city of Galle, watch spotted leopards in Yala National Park or hit the best surf spot in the country at Arugam Bay.

Central Sri Lanka

The country's highest peaks are all here, with Adam's Peak being the most famous (but beaten in height by Pidurutalagala). Kandy, the second largest city in Sri Lanka, celebrates tradition and a rich cultural heritage. The most impressive and famous site of them all though, is probably the 5th-century rock-top fortress of Sigiriya.

North Sri Lanka

The ancient capital of Anuradhapura, dating back over 2,500 years, is full of archaelogical and architectural wonders. The area further north saw a lot of fighting during the war but has recently been moving beyond that. Here you will find amazing unspoilt beaches around Trincomalee as well as the city of Jaffna, the Hindu-Tamil centre of Sri Lanka.
