The Tharaba Gate is the main gate of the east wall and also the only one left. In 849 AD when Bagan was established there were a total of 12 gates in the palace’s four walls.

 

It is worthwhile to stop at the Tharaba Gate entrance that is guarded by two guardian nats or spirits, brother and sister. Each of whose image is deposited in a shrine on each side of the gate. the male on the left and the female on the right when you enter the city. There are also stucco carvings on the walls.
