Papua The Baliem Valley
The Baliem Valley is situated in the middle of Papua, the Indonesian part of New Guinea. The valley is about 70 kilometers long and 20 kilometer wide and about 1800 meters above sea level. Until the middle of last century big parts of the valley where never accessed by Westerners. It is truly one of the last real adventures on earth.

The main city in the region is Wamena. The city has about 10.000 inhabitants and can only be reached by air as there are no reliable roads until this day. Best way to visit the area is with a local guide. Short treks around the city can be done without a guide, but for anything further it is highly recommended to employ a guide.
