Temples of Angkor

The temples of Angkor, since 1992 UNESCO World Heritage site, are spread out in an area of over 300 km2 but the most significant ones are just a few minutes out of Siem Reap town.  Beside Angkor Wat also Angkor Thom the last capital of the Khmer Empire, the Bayon templewith its giant stone faces or the Jungle Temple Ta Prohm where Angelina Jolie filmed Tomb Raider is a must in any itinerary.

Tonle Sap Lake

The Beoung Tonle Sap or the Great Tonle Sap Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia. At the start of the rainy season in early June the water level of the Mekong River rises to divert part of its flow off its course to the South China Sea and redirect it into the Tonle Sap Lake.
