Battambang Wat Ek Phnom

Location: 11 kilometers north of Battambang

Wat Ek Phnom is the modern Buddhist temple that you can find next to the Ek Phnom Ruins 11 kilometers north of Battambang. The modern temple of Wat Ek Phnom is very colorful and brightly decorated. Although historically less interesting as the ruins it does make for a nice photo opportunity.

Stop on the way to the temple at the local rice paper makers, where rice sheets are prepared to be used for spring rolls. Combine a visit of Wat Ek Phnom Temple with Phnom Sampeau, Phnom Banan or the Bamboo Train for a full day out.

Wat Ek Phnom is an elaborate modern pagoda which sits in front of the older ruin. The main towers still stand strong in this atmospheric site and there are some fine decorated lintels to be seen. You can also see a huge white statue of a sitting Buddha guarded by peacock trees.

At the weekend Wat Ek Phnom Temple can get crowded as it is a popular picnic spot for locals, but during the week you might find yourslef as the only visitor.
